NEWS AT CFA LGBT
What is the Summit?:
The Summit, an event held by the Coalition for Aging LGBT (CfA), will shine a bright light on the needs of the aging LGBT communities in North Texas. The challenges facing aging LGBT individuals are real and will ultimately affect almost every member of the LGBT community. While many programs exist that assist the general aging population, most were not designed with the unique needs of the LGBT community in mind. According to Cannon Flowers, CfA Founder and Chair, “If we don’t start addressing these issues now, some LGBT seniors may be forced ‘back into the closet’ to avoid discrimination when they seek assistance, or even worse, many may be too afraid to seek assistance at all.”
Fort Worth City Councilmember: Ann Zadeh will welcome Summit attendees during the opening plenary session. The Summit will dig deep into areas of primary concern for LGBT seniors – housing, legal/financial issues, legislation, transgender-specific issues, caring and wellness, and social spaces and support. The Summit will feature an impressive group of speakers on all of these issues, who will provide national, state and local perspectives.
