These team leads have devoted extensive time and insight working with senior housing communities to become more LGBT-competent and affirming. Mindy CheekMindy Cheek is in the business of serving seniors and currently serves as a Corporate Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Greystone. Mindy is a TEDx speaker and a senior living industry educator. Mindy presently volunteers for the Coalition for Aging LGBT and as an Education Ambassador for the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging. Betty KingA young LGBT activist in the early 1970’s, Betty understood there were minimal services, activities and lack of communication available in the North Texas LGBT community. She and numerous, trained volunteers created a phone line, Gayline, to address the needs of the area: information, services, activities and professional expert help. Now she has returned as an activist to help the Coalition create a similar support system for senior LGBT members. Betty is in charge of coordinating LGBT programming for participating communities in the LGBT-Friendly Senior Housing Initiative. Roseann RossettiRoseann Rossetti is the Co-founder and President Emeritus of C.U.R.E. (Community Unity Respect Education, Inc.) a non-profit organization advocating for people living with HIV and AIDS. Working closely with The Names Project, C.U.R.E. was the caretaker of the AIDS Memorial Quilt for the DFW region. In 2001 she began her volunteer work in Collin County and Dallas with Health Services of North Texas, C.U.R.E., GALA North Texas, North Texas Pride and the Coalition for Aging LGBT. |
Colleen Darraugh, B.Mus., M.Div.Colleen Darraugh serves as our Trainer bringing over 35 years experience as a public speaker, teacher and service to the community in her career role as a Pastor. Colleen has addressed LGBT concerns in university classrooms for Social Work, Counselor Education, and Feminist Studies as well as being a speaker at a World Council of Churches, Consultation on Human Sexuality. Colleen has worked alongside groups of LGBT people as they entered senior status and retirement and is the primary caregiver for an 85 year old. Dawnetta Miller, PhdDr. Dawnetta Miller is a past Board member and Officer of the CFA LGBT Board. During her term, she was chair of Plano’s first LGBT Summit on Aging, attended by more than 300 participants, co-chair of the housing committee, and served on the governance & finance committees. In December 2016, Dr. Miller contacted SAGE in Portland, OR, the nation’s first organization to publish an LGBT Senior Housing Guide, gathering ideas and information that would prove essential to the formation of the CFA LGBT’s housing initiative. Dr. Miller was happy to be a part of this work and congrats the Housing Committee volunteers for North Texas’ first guide. Carolyn RoneyCarolyn Roney began her working career as a teacher and coach and later moved to corporate America in the field of Human Resources, working her way up to Vice President of Staff One before she retired. She became the Assistant Director at Rosewood Assisted Living and Memory Care where she worked until her mother passed away in 2014. She served/s on many Boards including Oaklawn Community Services, Black Tie Dinner, Texas Pride Impact Funds and Coalition for Aging LGBT. She is now the caregiver for her 98 year old father and happily retired from professional work so she can concentrate on her volunteer work with Seniors and the LGBTQ community. |
